The Zoo

And, no, I'm not talking about my classroom! Saturday, I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Birm.ingham Z.oo with Carter, Callen, and Sue. At first, Callen didn't want to have anything to do with me because she thought that I was there to babysit while her mom left. She quickly figured out, however, that that was not the case and that we were all going to the zoo together.

Arriving at the zoo

We loaded up and headed out. The first thing that Carter wanted to see were the elephants. We meandered through the zoo for awhile, Carter chatting about some of the animals we were seeing, what he wanted to see, and announcing that he was there to see the elephants. Callen, on the other hand, was quietly drinking everything in...from the animals to the people around her to everything. She didn't say much until Sue started to push the stroller to which she quickly said, "No, no Mommy! Aunt B push!" And, with that, I became the "official stroller pusher" for the day!

We saw lots of things. It was so great to see them discover the animals. When Carter saw the elephant he was SO excited! He pressed his face up to the fence and was mesmerized. When I asked Callen what the elephant says, she replied, "Roll Tide!" That's one smart girl!

(I love how Callen is copying Carter, squatting down to see through the fence.)

We ended our zoo tour with a ride on the train. By that time, I think everyone, Aunt B included, was getting a little sleepy. We headed back home so the kiddos could have some lunch before taking a nap. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning at the zoo with them and I can't wait to do more fun things this summer!
